Freedom Center Awarded Quality of Life Grant
The Freedom Center of Independent Living is proud to announce that it has received a “Quality of Life Grant” from The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation (www.ChristopherReeve.org) in the amount of $5,000. This grant will help to support programmatic expenses of its Social Recreational Program. Our Social Recreation Program provides opportunities for persons with significant disabilities, who have a low income and/or limited access to transportation the opportunity and ability to actively participate in social and recreational events, as well as day-trip activities within their communities.
Social Recreational Program participants developed friendships with people they otherwise would not have had the opportunity to meet; and as a collective group, become advocates for people with disabilities. The Freedom Center’s impact has stretched from its doors into the community, something we are most proud of. The Freedom center believes one might have no choice but to live with a disability, but one should have a choice not to live a disabled life style. Our outings will continue to promote life, not disability.
This grant is funded through a cooperative agreement between the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Award #. 1U59DD000338).
Our consumers visit Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
